Beginning July 1, 2012 employers will be required to fully disclose to employees all fees associated with their given 401k plan. This requirement will be an eye opening experience for employers who often times are not sure what all they are paying for their 401k.
Many 401k plans are loaded with various types of fees, and uncovering the true costs has always been a very difficult task for anyone who has attempted, but beginning July 1, 2012 it will be much easier.
High fees associated with 401k plans have been eroding investors’ returns for a long time. Hopefully these new disclosures will result in better informed employers and employees who will be more inclined to look into cheaper, more efficient alternatives.
